Modern French Country Kitchen Remodel

Modern French Country Kitchen Remodel

What a fun remodel project this was! We took an Old World kitchen and gave it a modern French country flair in Plano, TX! We kept the existing cabinets as well as the appliances, except for the refrigerator. As you can see from the photos below, we changed everything else! When I create a design plan for a kitchen I like to start with the countertop material. Once that has been decided, everything else will fall into place. I selected the Steel Gray granite for all of the countertops as well as the island. Then, my client wanted the island…

Peaceful Frisco Master Bedroom

This is the third project for these awesome clients. This time we furnished the master bedroom and the media room. We also added custom window treatments to the office and game room. The powder bathroom got art and a new light fixture. We spruced up the master bathroom with Mirrocle frames, art, accessories, cabinet hardware, light fixtures, and towel fixtures. One of my goals when working with my clients is to create an enjoyable design process. It should be simple because my clients are very busy people! I may meet them at work for a consultation. I will provide options but…

Definition of an Interior Designer

  • March 6, 2017

A designer is someone who works from her intuition. She can visualize what a room can be and feel how the room will translate. She solves design dilemmas. She challenges her clients to move to a new level they didn't know they would love. A designer communicates well with clients, contractors, and artisans. Collaborating on the specifics of a custom vent hood cover, whether or not we can remove the columns, and the perfect measurements for an upholstered bed are a few of the things that I communicate about. The best contractors and good communication are key to great design.…

Mix Your Metals

The merriment is in the mix, so mix the metals in your home. This weeks blog post is about metallic finishes...hardware, light fixtures, accessories, and picture frames. Name an item and you can find it in a few dozen different finishes. Think of them as colors. For example, gold is yellow and chrome is gray. Gray is a cool color and yellow is a warm color and it's great to use both for balance. There really aren't any rules any more about matching metals. The images below are of my home office. I had so much fun with this space! I…

Organized Closet My Favorite Things

It's always great to get organized and start the new year with a freshly organized closet. It's also great to donate to charity! You can do both when you donate the clothes that you no longer wear to thredUp. Sign up and receive a bag.  When you receive your bag you will fill it with your pretty items like hand bags, shoes and dresses that you no longer wear/use (you can send kids clothes, too!). Then send the bag to thredUp. You can decide to donate the proceeds of your items to charity or receive a payment for your items.…

Hand Painted Tiles

There are so many beautiful tiles available for the kitchen and bathroom. I am amazed by the detail and craftsmanship by the hand painted and handmade tiles. With many of the companies you can select your own colors to be made just for you! How great is that? You can also select a variety of pencils, chair rail, and liners to frame and finish your design. Pencils, chair rail, and liners are the long pieces of tile that separate tiles and finish off the edges. Take a look at the combinations of tile below. There are layers of color and…

Modern Ball Clock

I have the opportunity to share this charming wall clock with you! It's a fun, retro clock that you can hang anywhere. I especially like the colors and the brass arms. Its a little on the small size, measuring 13.5" wide but I guess that means you can hang it on a narrow wall or you could create a fun wall collage with an eclectic mix of framed art and such. You may just have to have one of these clocks, especially if your style is contemporary or mid century modern. Go here to pick one up for yourself! And,…

Light Bulbs, Color Temperature and Design

Light Bulbs, Color Temperature and Design

We just had some beautiful Pilsen White granite installed in our kitchen but I was surprised when it looked like vanilla ice cream after it was installed. I was amazed at how warm and almost yellow my new granite appeared. It just didn't look right with the cool, gray backsplash tile. Needless to say, I was not happy. I thought about it for a while and wondered what could be causing the yellow appearance. Was it the cherry stained cabinets? Was it the beige paint color on the wall? No, it must be the light bulbs! I immediately had to…
