Sincerity Color Palette for Sherwin Williams

Sherwin Williams creates color palettes for each new year. The colors are based on the changes in technology, global influences, and fashion. I was especially interested in the color palette called Sincerity. Sincerity embodies minimalism, possibility, calming spaces, imperfection, and quiet. Maybe I am drawn to this palette because I need more "sincerity" or calm in my life! I seem to move at the speed of light some days and there seems to be a buzz in my ears. Other influences of the palette are Instagram, Hygge (pronounced hue-guh not hoo-gah) is a Danish word used when acknowledging a feeling or moment,…

Family, Inspiration, Friends, and Interior Design

When I work with my clients I consider the following three values: Family First- The rooms need to support the lifestyle of the family who lives in the home. If the family has pets, young children, teens, aging parents, or someone with special needs, I want to make sure that everyone is comfortable. The fabrics, layout, and lighting for example, need to function uniquely. 2. Rooms that Inspire- Busy entrepreneurs and their families should be inspired to reach their goals. I work with a lot of business people with high power jobs and retired folks that are ultra active. They…

High Point Furniture Market 2017

I got back from High Point furniture market in High Point, North Carolina this week. It is a non-stop all day feast of furniture, lighting, and art, and a little dessert and wine. I was able to source items for clients and make connections with vendors for future projects. It is such a stimulating experience that I could not sleep at night. Here is just a taste of what I saw. Natural woven fibers on beds and lighting. Brass light fixtures with interesting textures are tres chic. Metal and lucite light fixtures are interesting.   Selenite and crystals were on…

Modern French Country Kitchen Remodel

Modern French Country Kitchen Remodel

What a fun remodel project this was! We took an Old World kitchen and gave it a modern French country flair in Plano, TX! We kept the existing cabinets as well as the appliances, except for the refrigerator. As you can see from the photos below, we changed everything else! When I create a design plan for a kitchen I like to start with the countertop material. Once that has been decided, everything else will fall into place. I selected the Steel Gray granite for all of the countertops as well as the island. Then, my client wanted the island…

Peaceful Frisco Master Bedroom

This is the third project for these awesome clients. This time we furnished the master bedroom and the media room. We also added custom window treatments to the office and game room. The powder bathroom got art and a new light fixture. We spruced up the master bathroom with Mirrocle frames, art, accessories, cabinet hardware, light fixtures, and towel fixtures. One of my goals when working with my clients is to create an enjoyable design process. It should be simple because my clients are very busy people! I may meet them at work for a consultation. I will provide options but…

Definition of an Interior Designer

Definition of an Interior Designer

A designer is someone who works from her intuition. She can visualize what a room can be and feel how the room will translate. She solves design dilemmas. She challenges her clients to move to a new level they didn't know they would love. A designer communicates well with clients, contractors, and artisans. Collaborating on the specifics of a custom vent hood cover, whether or not we can remove the columns, and the perfect measurements for an upholstered bed are a few of the things that I communicate about. The best contractors and good communication are key to great design.…

Mix Your Metals

The merriment is in the mix, so mix the metals in your home. This weeks blog post is about metallic finishes...hardware, light fixtures, accessories, and picture frames. Name an item and you can find it in a few dozen different finishes. Think of them as colors. For example, gold is yellow and chrome is gray. Gray is a cool color and yellow is a warm color and it's great to use both for balance. There really aren't any rules any more about matching metals. The images below are of my home office. I had so much fun with this space! I…
